Jaimie’s Senior Session | Minneapolis Photographer | Class of 2013

Jaimie attends Eden Prairie Senior High School and stays quite busy in her free time. She spends a great deal of time at Circus Juventas and has for some time now.
She had just finished up performances with CJ in the Summer 2012 performance of Showdown. I was amazed by how much time, work and effort Jaimie told me she has to put into such performances. She has a great sense of humor and an awesome smile and of course a wonderful personality.

We had a perfect night for this shoot. Although you wrestle with a pretty tight timeline these evenings with the sun setting so quickly.
It was great to get to know Jaimie as well as her Mom that Friday evening.

Circus Juventas’ Summer Performance of Showdown has begun.
I have seen it twice and wholeheartedly recommend it.

The amount of effort that goes into these performance is amazing. From the training, through the costumes and set creations, to the blood and sweat the performers pour into these shows. It all makes for a truly memorable experience and the best part is that tickets are very reasonably priced. One of the best bangs for a dollar you are ever going to get. So, I encourage you to check them out… and soon!

GRIMM | CIRCUS JUVENTAS SUMMER 2011 PERFORMANCE

The Summer 2011 performance of GRIMM | Happily Ever After was truly an amazing spectacle. Everything seemed “over the top” on this show. If you missed it… you REALLY missed it. I had so many amazing and beautiful images from this performance that I had a difficult time whittling down my list of favorites. There are many images here so please forgive my indulgence but I really felt I could not limit myself to just a small handful and still tell the story of GRIMM. So here they are… all 36 of them. Just One Bite | A Return To Grimm | Minneapolis Event Photographer

I just got caught up with all my current wedding and portrait work and realized yesterday, I had forgotten I had one more Circus Juventas – GRIMM (Happily Ever After) performance to edit from the last day’s performance. I think I got many of my best shots that day but I still need to edit them. This is one, not a high action shot, but a shot that reveals the grace, emotion and beauty that Circus Juventas puts into these wonderful performances. If you have never been to a Circus Juventas performance you are missing out on so much. Please make a point to check them out sometime.

Be looking for one more summary type post on the show once I finish this last set. All the images I have shot are available on my “store” website. You will need a password however so please contact me for that.

Circus Juventas GRIMM Quick Edits | Minneapolis Event Photographer

I missed the opening week of Circus Juventas’ GRIMM but made it to last night’s performance. I have a lot of work to clear off my table so I quickly edited some of the shots from last night and am posting them here.

The performance was amazing and beautifully done. The costumes are amazing as are the different acts. Lighting seems better from my point of view as opposed to Yulong (2009) and Sawdust (2010). I will be returning again this weekend as well as next week. I will do a full blown post once I am all done with all my images.

For now please enjoy a small taste of GRIMM.

I was asked to take some headshots for Circus Juventas to be used for the Summer Performance program. This year’s production, another Circus Juventas original, is titled GRIMM: Happily Ever After. Tickets go on sale July 5th. Get your tickets soon as shows sell out and this is something you do not want to miss.

With that… here are some of my favorite shots. It was wonderful working more closely with all the performers. Generally we do not get to interact as I am primarily shooting performances. I appreciated this opportunity to meet and work with them all on a different level.

Circus Juventas | 2010 Gala | St. Paul, MN.

Every year Circus Juventas hosts this Gala in which they raise money for scholarships for students amongst other things. This year was emceed, as was last year, by BT from Cities 97.This event was a wonderful close to a first year relationship with Circus Juventas as photographer. The evening encompasses a silent auction, a regular sort of auction, a catered dinner and drinks, and highlights from the summer show which this year was Sawdust. One highlight of the evening was Dan Butler (Founder and Executive Director of CJ) congratulating and presenting the Triple Trapeze Team with the gold medals they won in a national competition in Sweden just a week or so prior to the Gala.

Pseu Pseu Studio

The other day I had the pleasure of returning to Circus Juventas to do some portrait shots of the very talented coaches and staff.

I don’t often do what I would classify as, studio shoots. The night I was there was a night where things were in full swing so I had little room to work in on a main pathway in the building. It lent itself to some interesting encounters but all in all the shoot came off well.

I enjoy being able to pull out the lights and background, in this case I was using a new background for the first time, and seeing what we can do. There is a different sense of accomplishment that comes from a more structured shoot than that which comes from a photojournalistic, on the fly, sort of shoot. I enjoyed my time back with this wonderful group. Here are some of the shots we came away with.

Circus Juventas | Sawdust | St. Paul, MN.

Circus Juventas’ Summer performance titled Sawdust is now in its second weekend of its three weekend run.

Circus Juventas is a performing arts youth circus school located in St. Paul, Minnesota and serving the Twin Cities metro area. They offer youth circus arts training and performance opportunities for children and youth ages 3 to 21 in a safe and noncompetitive environment. While encouraging and helping to develop individual strengths and abilities, the professional staff at Circus Juventas gives every child the opportunity to be in the spotlight.

They are a wonderful group managed by the team of Dan and Betty Butler. This Summer’s performance is a tribute to the Circus of yesteryear, hence the name Sawdust. The show is amazing and the talents of these youth far surpasses their ages. Please get to Sawdust while you still can, you will not be disappointed.
