Paul Nye | Musician and Songwriter | Studio Portrait Session

Paul Nye, is a Musician, Singer, Songwriter who resides up in Walker, MN. He is putting together a new CD which will be released this Spring. The more I learn about Paul the more impressed I am. I just noticed on the liner notes of his last CD that he played almost all the instruments. I don’t know about you but that just blows me away. His newest CD, as his previous release, is a collection of songs for children. Parents and children alike will love this music and I encourage you to check it out here. He also has his own website. Paul also puts on some 80 shows during the Summer at the Woodtick Theatre in Akeley, Minnesota. If you get up to that neck of the woods I encourage you to check a show out. Deb and I are planning on it this year.

Paul and I had been in contact for a couple of weeks and he let me know he was headed to the Twin Cities and wanted to connect and get some shots. I was grateful to have the opportunity to work with him. I had a great time getting to know him and look forward to connecting again soon.

Here are some shots from our time together that afternoon.

Minneapolis Wedding Photographer | Mara and Jon | Engagement

Oh, this e-session was one of my favorites.
Jon and Mara will be getting married September 29th of next year. We had only met a couple of weeks prior to this session and I had not gathered from our meeting just how much fun these two are to be with. I had a great time and we shot almost ’til sundown.
We shot in Minneapolis, primarily in and around the Guthrie Theatre.
I loved how their images turned out… I just knew they were going to be awesome. Mara and Jon looked so comfortable with each other and I could just sense them warming up to the camera which, in most cases, takes some time.
I am so looking forward to shooting their outdoor wedding next year. They have chosen a gorgeous outdoor venue in Plymouth for the location. It should be just a beautiful time. To hear them tell the story of what it took to book the venue is amazing. To say they were determined is an understatement.

I am looking forward to their day next year knowing it will be an amazing amazing day… and lots of fun too!
Here is Mara and Jon.

Tapestry – Threads Of Hope Concert | Minneapolis Event Photography

On September 23rd, 2011 a fund raising concert for Tapestry Pregnancy & Family Resource Center took place at Church of the Open Door (my church home). Who is Tapestry? Here is a short description from their website, which, you should check out by the way.

“With a spirit of dignity and grace, we provide life-affirming support to women and children in crisis in three areas: unplanned pregnancy, personal empowerment and humanitarian outreach.”

Three artists came together to support Tapestry that evening (actually more than that with Bruce Balgaard and Aaron Ankrum in the house) Joel Hanson was the headliner along with Elizabeth Hunnicutt and Sara Renner. All just wonderful artists carrying a heart for Jesus and the will to follow Him. They also create wonderful music (smile).

Here are some shots from the evening and while you may have not been there you can still support Tapestry anytime. Just click this link and head on over to their site.

Circus Juventas GRIMM Quick Edits | Minneapolis Event Photographer

I missed the opening week of Circus Juventas’ GRIMM but made it to last night’s performance. I have a lot of work to clear off my table so I quickly edited some of the shots from last night and am posting them here.

The performance was amazing and beautifully done. The costumes are amazing as are the different acts. Lighting seems better from my point of view as opposed to Yulong (2009) and Sawdust (2010). I will be returning again this weekend as well as next week. I will do a full blown post once I am all done with all my images.

For now please enjoy a small taste of GRIMM.

Minneapolis Wedding Photographer | Tracy and Preston | Engagement

Tracy and Preston will be getting married in September. It promises to be a beautiful early Fall wedding. It was fun working with these two and getting to know each other during the session. Besides getting some great photographs of couples together the other primary reason to do e-sessions is to develop relationships.

For their session we hiked around a nearby nature center and then headed over to the wedding ceremony site which is a wonderful park I did not even know existed. Before we headed out though I got to meet their two gorgeous huskies. Such sweet dogs and I love their eyes.

So, here are some of my favorites from the session.

Enjoy!

Minneapolis Attorney | Minneapolis Portraits

I had the pleasure of spending a little bit of time with well respected Minneapolis attorney Anthony Barthel. Anthony had previously partnered with another Minneapolis attorney.  Together they had built a substantial Minneapolis firm specializing in corprate and contract law. Anthony has since struck out on his own to begin his own firm. I came into contact with Anthony via a mutual friend.

Anthony will be officing in the Carlson Tower complex. This was my first time visiting the Towers. What an impressive complex. It was amazing. I would have liked to have several hours just documenting the structure.

Here are some shots we got that early evening that will be used by Anthony for promotional purposes on his upcoming website.

Thank you Anthony and I wish you the best on this new adventure!

The Johnson Family | Minneapolis Portraits

I have recently gained access to studio space and within a week of signing on I had the Johnson family in for a portrait session. Just in time for the holiday season. I had shot Ashetin’s Senior Session (daughter) in the Fall so I had met most of the family at that time. Such a great family to work with, and so full of life. At seven people they were a bit larger of a group than I was accustomed to for a portrait session but it made it that much more fun. I was happy to hear on their long ride home all the talk was about the session. I am glad they all enjoyed it as much as I did. Thanks Johnson family for a wonderful time together. Next time I will remember to keep the Oreos hidden until we are done. It will make editing a bit easier for me. :-)

The studio is located just outside downtown Minneapolis with easy freeway access and plenty of free parking. It is equipped with all the comforts of home and I am sure you will find it very welcoming. Please contact me via phone or email to book a session indoors during these cold Winter months. I would love to have you out there.

Here are some of my favorite shots of the Johnsons as we “broke-in” the studio.

Amy and Keith | Stillwater Wedding Photography

There is just something special about being part of smaller intimate wedding. Amy and Keith’s wedding was truly an invitation to their union and family. It took place October 24th in the gorgeous Aurora Staples Inn located in Stillwater, MN. I had just returned from a trip to China several days prior to meeting with Amy and Keith over a cup of coffee to discuss their days proceedings. This was just a few days prior to the wedding and so, quite honestly, I did not have a terribly good feel for their personalities but I soon discovered the day of the wedding their general demeanor. They both have a wonderful sense of humor and will play off each other for many many years to come. Their friends should never have a dull moment in their company. The day moved fast and shooting quarters were a bit cramped in the house but you just could not beat the ambience of that place. The beautiful woodwork and furnishings made it an awesome place for this special day. I also very much enjoyed being in the presence of both of their families.

Thank you Amy and Keith for letting me have this special place on your wedding day. Bless you both in your lives together.

Kim and Beau | The Journey Begins | Minneapolis Engagement Session

Kim and Beau will be getting married on September 3rd. I am so grateful that they asked me to be their photographer. Such great individuals but an even better team, and they look just so darned great together it would require effort not to love them.

For this shoot, their e-session, we wandered to some of their favorite shared places around town and then ended the session with a delightful breakfast at one of their favorite spots, French Meadow Cafe in Minneapolis.

I had such a good time with them both. Here are some of my favorites from the session. Thank you Kim and Beau!

North Shore

It was good, actually great, to get away last month up to the north shore of Lake Superior for several days with my lovely bride. The weather was a bit hit and miss but all in all it was a nice time. I really enjoy the beauty of that area and look forward to a trip up there in the dead of winter sometime to see a different type of beauty up there.
I am looking forward to the Fall portrait shoots coming up this month. It should be a great time. As I keep pushing myself out of my comfort zone I am gaining more confidence which spurs me on to push out of my zone even further. It’s growth and I am loving it, and it feels “right”.
Talking about things that feel right I now where glasses as of a couple of weeks ago. I am just starting to get comfortable with them now. Quite an adjustment for me but I have been shooting with them – even in high action situations and I have done well. So, we are bonding.
I have begun shooting for Circus Juventas now which is really a great opportunity for me. They are impressed and pleased with my work so I hope our relationship lasts for some time. It is quite a challenge shooting such a fast moving event. Their shows are fabulous and extravagant. If you can get out to see one of their events do it. It will be time and dollars well spent, and they are pretty easy on the pocketbook. But you will be astonished by what this group of young people can do. Not only what they can do but by the level of precision and professionalism that they perform with, amazing.
Well, I think that is enough for now. More to come soon.
God bless.

Here are some shots from our trip to northern Minnesota. All images available for sale at my store.
