I was excited to get out with these folks for a quick family session outdoors in the middle of our wonderful Minnesota Winter. Ryan, Jen and the boys had just relocated here from Ohio where the Winters are not quite as intense as we experience here in the Twin Cities. Thankfully we got a decent day to get out and grab some shots… we had tried once before but Ol’ Man Winter got the best of us that day and we had to re-schedule. We did not have a whole lot of time… like 20 minutes… to get these shots. It was a bit cold and blustery for the little ones. The littlest just having turned 6 months old.
Welcome to Minnesota Ryan, Jen and the boys. I hope you love it here and I look forward to photographing you all again sometime when we don’t have to be all bundled up. It was a pleasure meeting you all.
I have known the M family for quite a while now and first began photographing them when Mom was first pregnant with the little one. It has been one of my favorite yearly events to get together with them and do their family portrait session.
I have taken many color photographs of them, and have color copies of all those presented here but, I felt the black and whites really spoke to the feeling and of the love of this family. I think the essence of what photography is all about is often captured in the simplest of forms, black and white.
I hope you enjoy these images as much as I do and that you smile right along with me. I’d love to know your thoughts on the black and white theme of this post so please if you feel so moved leave me a comment below.
Thank you once again M family… I love you guys.

Last week I had the opportunity to do a quick corporate portrait session with Convey Compliance Systems Inc. located in Minnetonka. We basically shot in three different locations throughout their building. Both indoors using strobes and outdooors with natural lighting. I did not know how many people would be involved going so I was surprised to find out there would be thirteen. Everyone was a pleasure to work with, very relaxed and quite accommodating. The shoot went smoothly and without a hitch. Here is one selected shot from each individual. I provided a color and black and white version of each image they received.

Oh, this e-session was one of my favorites.
Jon and Mara will be getting married September 29th of next year. We had only met a couple of weeks prior to this session and I had not gathered from our meeting just how much fun these two are to be with. I had a great time and we shot almost ’til sundown.
We shot in Minneapolis, primarily in and around the Guthrie Theatre.
I loved how their images turned out… I just knew they were going to be awesome. Mara and Jon looked so comfortable with each other and I could just sense them warming up to the camera which, in most cases, takes some time.
I am so looking forward to shooting their outdoor wedding next year. They have chosen a gorgeous outdoor venue in Plymouth for the location. It should be just a beautiful time. To hear them tell the story of what it took to book the venue is amazing. To say they were determined is an understatement.
I am looking forward to their day next year knowing it will be an amazing amazing day… and lots of fun too!
Here is Mara and Jon.

I was privileged to meet the Marissa and her family out at Fish Lake Park in Maple Grove a few weeks back. We had to cancel an earlier scheduled session a couple of weeks earlier when the weather was a bit more kind. We had plenty of sunshine this late afternoon but with it came plenty of wind and a bite in the air. Their 11 month old daughter did not seem to mind the wind and cold as much as I did. Marissa and family were a referral from another client which was great and I appreciated that referral.
It was a pleasure hanging out with the G’s that late afternoon as it was a pleasure meeting them all. I hope that we can do it again when the weather is a bit more accommodating.
Thank you Marissa and Family!

I was out with the M family a little over a week ago. We went to a park in Maple Grove and shot what I would describe as a more lifestyle session than a portrait session. I love it when people can just be who they are and I get to spend some time in the middle of their lives capturing their interactions. I only give minimal directing and let things happen and just try to be in the right spot and ready when they do.
This was not my first outing with them and I don’t expect it will be the last… at least if I can have my way.
Here are some shots of the session.

Taylor is a Senior at Saint Paul Conservatory for Performing Artist she is also a student/performer at Circus Juventas.
What I did not know about Taylor is that she is studying vocal arts at school. I sort of feel like I was robbed as I never did hear her sing but my hope and prayer would be that one day we all get to hear her sing. I am betting we will.
Taylor and her Mom met Deb and I down around Nicollet Island and we just kind of wandered around from there. Taylor was a natural in front of the camera. Taylor also wanted to get some shots of her doing the sorts of things I normally see her doing at Circus Juventas. That was a lot of fun and really brought a piece of who she is into the imagery. I have included two of those images here.
It was a pleasure hanging out with Taylor and her Mom for a couple of hours. I love the images we came away with so here are some shared.
Taylor I wish you the best in the future that you are moving towards and that waits for you to enter in. I am grateful to have spent some time with you capturing these images that will serve as reminders of this last year of High School.

About a year ago I donated a portrait session to an auction being held to support a co-worker who had mounting medical bills due to his battle with cancer. Abby had won the session in the auction. For one reason or another it took until a little over a week ago for us to get out with her family for a session.
It was so much fun working with Abby, her husband and son. Wonderful people all! They will be adding one more to their family pretty soon as you can tell in the photographs. I hope I get the chance to photograph the even larger Breyer family sometime in the future.
Until then… here are some shots from our morning together.
Thank you Abby!

I have known Jennifer and her husband Brad for a number of years. It was a joy to have them both, along with other family members in the studio this past month. Lets just say it was a controlled sort of chaos… and I mean that in the nicest way possible. Strong personalities involved in this shoot, from the oldest right down to the youngest, and it was so much fun working with them all.
Thank you Jennifer and Brad for pulling this together!
Here are some shots from our time together.
