We Never Forget Our First Love | Arizona Desert Sunrise (for Deb)

arizona desert sunrise

Arizona Desert Sunrise

Deb has mentioned once or twice… maybe several times, that I do not do as many nature shots as I used to, which is true. These days I have found it hard to find the time to get out. Between taking photographs of people and processing them as well as working my day job (add into that a sick cat that wakes you up at 3AM) and you may very well understand my time constraints. The thing is though that I love doing this type of work. The old saying “we never forget our first love” is certainly true in this case. Oddly enough as I have done more and more portraits and weddings I find myself more and more critical of “non-human” images of mine. Images I would have once thought beautiful I no longer do.

On our last trip to Arizona I managed to get some images that I am really excited about but finding the time to process them is still tough. Again, my criticism of my own work does not move me along rapidly but rather hinders me.

With that… this image is for Deb. She loves this gorgeous state of Arizona and I am in total agreement. I will post some more images down the road which you may see here or more likely here in my Arizona Print Gallery where you can purchase this image as well as others.

California Hills and Wanderings | Travel 2011

Here are some images from the second part of our Saturday in California. You can see the first part here. Quite a contrast in a very short distance. Deb had found Coyote Regional Hills Park out wandering while I was at work one day. It sounded beautiful and peaceful, as she described it. The rolling hills sounded gorgeous and I had not been around sheep roaming wild before so I was also interested in what that would look like (imaginings of rural Ireland dancing in my mind). We got there mid-afternoon after the first part of our journey that day. The sun was less than optimal and we needed to head to church at 5:00PM  so we did not get to hang around till the sun started to dip. Anyways I came away with these shots which serve as a wonderful memory to a time when all seemed right with the world and the hurried pace of this life slowed down to allow deep cleansing breaths. Peace.

California Beaches and Wanderings | Travel 2011

Deb and I took a quick trip to California last week. I had to spend some time in Menlo Park working for a few days. However, we had Saturday all to ourselves. So, we headed west to Half Moon Bay and then headed up the coastal highway to San Francisco. These are some of the images I shot that morning. There will be another post about the afternoon but the theme is a bit a different as you will see. I still need to process those images so, for now, enjoy some of the beauty we enjoyed on our one day outing in California. Thanks for stopping by.

Atlanta Trip 2011 | Passion 2011

Deb and I made our fourth trek to Georgia at the start of the year. We were once again serving at a Passion Conference (sixth time). We very much believe in what the Passion family is doing. Their ambition is to make the name of Jesus famous on this earth. Their conferences are geared towards high school seniors and college students. We all (20,000+) came together for some great teaching, worship and also community breakouts and then we head out, and out, and out carrying with us what we have learned and trying to walk alongside Jesus in every aspect of our lives. Deb and I generally find some time to ourselves during these conferences, namely during dinner time. The time we have to do our thing is short but we manage to squeeze some good times in with just us two. Here are some of my favorite shots of the conference and some other shots just around town while we were on our own.

24 in Duluth

Deb and I took a quick one day trip up to Duluth. I had not spent a night up there in two years and was looking forward to the visit. Deb had just been up there the weekend before and said it was freezing. This was not the case when we were there. It was gorgeous, hot and sunny.

Here are some images captured during the trip. All were shot with the Canon 40D which I have recently begun using a bit more than I had after buying my 5D (first edition).  Some of the shots are available on my store site if you are interested in purchasing a print.

Go-ing West

Deb and I went to California a couple of weeks ago. It was a working vacation for me but a real chance to get away for Deb. Despite the land barge we got as a rental car we still had a great time truckin’ around on my off hours. Lots of fine dining in the evening, with Jamba Juice in the day to carry us through to those evenings. Weather was acceptable. You never know quite what you will get out in that neck of the woods. We were mainly in the Palo Alto and Menlo Park areas. Saturday was beautiful and afforded us a trip to “The City” where we went to some places we had been before and some we had not. I had a great time there with my Lovely One. Here are some of my favorite shots from the trip.

North Shore

It was good, actually great, to get away last month up to the north shore of Lake Superior for several days with my lovely bride. The weather was a bit hit and miss but all in all it was a nice time. I really enjoy the beauty of that area and look forward to a trip up there in the dead of winter sometime to see a different type of beauty up there.
I am looking forward to the Fall portrait shoots coming up this month. It should be a great time. As I keep pushing myself out of my comfort zone I am gaining more confidence which spurs me on to push out of my zone even further. It’s growth and I am loving it, and it feels “right”.
Talking about things that feel right I now where glasses as of a couple of weeks ago. I am just starting to get comfortable with them now. Quite an adjustment for me but I have been shooting with them – even in high action situations and I have done well. So, we are bonding.
I have begun shooting for Circus Juventas now which is really a great opportunity for me. They are impressed and pleased with my work so I hope our relationship lasts for some time. It is quite a challenge shooting such a fast moving event. Their shows are fabulous and extravagant. If you can get out to see one of their events do it. It will be time and dollars well spent, and they are pretty easy on the pocketbook. But you will be astonished by what this group of young people can do. Not only what they can do but by the level of precision and professionalism that they perform with, amazing.
Well, I think that is enough for now. More to come soon.
God bless.

Here are some shots from our trip to northern Minnesota. All images available for sale at my store.

Road Trip

On our way back home from Colorado Springs we stopped a few times. Here are some shots taken at those places. Mainly from around the Omaha/Council Bluffs area. An area which I always enjoy visiting.

To The Top Of The World

Last week Deb and I headed to Colorado to breathe again the thin air. We drove which may have not been the best idea. We had not yet taken a long overnight drive anywhere, the two if us together. The extended ride in Deb’s car was not so good for us physically but we made it.
I will post some other shots soon but these here were taken the first day we arrived. We took the cog-rail up Pike’s Peak to the summit. Very cool… literally even. What a great way to start our time there. I recommend it whole heartedly to anyone interested. You would do good though to say a prayer that you get seats facing uphill as it is a battle if you are facing the other way as you fight falling out of your seat… both ways.

Arizona 2009

Wow… a month has passed since the last post. I will just say I have been busy and immediately I feel the guilt slide away :-) Deb and I enjoyed our trip to Arizona last month. This was our 5th trip out there… at least for me. I love it out there, especially Sedona and neighboring towns. Here is just a wide smattering of shots I took out there. Many (many not shown here) are for sale on my AdoraPro site http://exposedtolight.adorapro.com/0126882450.

I have been once again hard at work on building my post processing. Getting the shot is just a small piece of the final product… well not that small a piece but less time goes into that then goes into the work afterwards.

Trying to build a business plan for this passion is not my forte. I am working at it but it is slow and I am not getting any younger. So I hope I can chart a course here pretty darned soon and get this train a rollin’.

I think I will have another post soon so I will keep this one short.

Parting thought: it is feeling like Summer out there. I cannot wait to see what sort of imagery I capture this Summer. “It’s all coming together now” woo hoo.

Peace everyone. B
