Jenaye and Jeff Winter Wedding | Aamodt’s Apple Orchard | Stillwater

A Winter wedding story: As I recall Jenaye and Jeff contacted me in mid-October to inquire about photographing their December 8th Winter wedding. So we met at French Meadow Bakery one Saturday morning for breakfast and to see if we were a good fit for each other. I was a bit surprised to realize they had been planning an outdoor wedding in December. I mean come on, this is Minnesota after all. Believe it or not though I got really excited. They wanted to do something different and their plans sounded wonderful. They were having a small outdoor wedding at Aamodt’s Apple Farm in Stillwater. I had been to Aamodts numerous times and loved the location. It has it all… but the vineyards and trees aren’t to full come December. I knew it would still be awesome in Winter.

They did not really do a rehearsal but I met with them at Aamodts the day before their wedding and worked with them to setup everything. Hauling items from the car to the barn to driving shepherds hooks into the frozen tundra. It was really a nice time just to spend with them and enjoy their company… they are such a cute team.

Their ceremony was wonderful with family and close friends gathered around a fire-pit as they exchanged vows. A frozen pond lined with trees formed the backdrop for this scene. I loved the fact that they decided to do all the formals out there in the cold… and it was pretty chilly. Nearing sundown as they finished up with a walk through the sparklers and hopped on the bus to head to the reception.

The ceremony while small lead into a large reception back in Bloomington. Quite a contrast from the intimate wedding we had all been privileged to attend just a couple hours before. There were so many people it was hard to navigate the waiting area as folks waited to be led into the ballroom. The reception took place at the Minneapolis Airport Marriott.

It was a day I will not forget. I hope once again to shoot another Winter wedding. Very special!

Jillian and Brent Wedding | The Woods Chapel | Orono, MN.

I met Jillian and Brent through Jillian’s brother Taylor. We shot their engagement session in the Spring. Talk about a couple so meant for each other and so full of personality and love. You could not help but fall in love with these two. I attended and photographed the Groom’s Dinner which took place at Jake O’Connor’s in Excelsior. It was great to get a preview of the day to come and see the various family and friends and how they all related. I’d have provided some of those shots… which were awesome… but in all honesty it was all I could do to whittle this post down to what is being presented. Which is alot. The day was chilly but the surroundings were gorgeous at The Woods Chapel in Orono. For a photographer it was like one of those weddings you dream of doing. The dream can come true and when it does you better be ready to go. I had no help on this wedding, no assistant and no second but yeah… I rocked it. But so did everyone else. The pictures tell the story… just as they should. This was a beautiful wedding on a beautiful day with beautiful people in a beautiful setting. So grateful to have met these two and even more grateful that they gave me this opportunity to peer into their day with my camera.

Welcome To Minnesota! | Family Session | Winter 2013

I was excited to get out with these folks for a quick family session outdoors in the middle of our wonderful Minnesota Winter. Ryan, Jen and the boys had just relocated here from Ohio where the Winters are not quite as intense as we experience here in the Twin Cities. Thankfully we got a decent day to get out and grab some shots… we had tried once before but Ol’ Man Winter got the best of us that day and we had to re-schedule. We did not have a whole lot of time… like 20 minutes… to get these shots. It was a bit cold and blustery for the little ones. The littlest just having turned 6 months old.

Welcome to Minnesota Ryan, Jen and the boys. I hope you love it here and I look forward to photographing you all again sometime when we don’t have to be all bundled up. It was a pleasure meeting you all.

Valparaiso Wedding | Denita and Andy | Minneapolis Wedding Photographer

Amazing… yep that is how I would sum up this weekend in October.
I met Denita in 2011 at her sister Connie’s, wedding and we became Facebook friends. Denita lived in Chicago at the time. I saw sometime last year she had gotten engaged and they were planning their wedding. I loved working with Connie and Isaac and their families in 2011 and wanted to shoot Denita and Andy’s wedding and spend time with all these folks again. Well, after some email volley’s and a phone call I was booked and quite delighted to be a part of their day.

Deb and I drove out to Valparaiso the Friday morning before the big day. I was able to be there for the rehearsal (which I always like to do when possible). The ceremony was held at the Chapel of the Resurrection on the Valparaiso College campus. With the reception taking place in a large tent at Vermillion Farm.

The weather was gorgeous, the chapel was gorgeous, the bride was gorgeous, the families and friends were wonderful… and the beer… all brewed by Denita’s Dad and friend was delicious. What more could you ask for? Well beautiful pictures to remember and tell the story of the day. So here are a few.

Passion 2013 | Atlanta Georgia

Deb and I returned to Atlanta to serve on the Lunch Team of Passion 2013. Making this our eighth Passion conference (2007, 2008 Regionals in Chicago, LA, and Atlanta, 2010, 2011, 2012). This was our second year on the Lunch Team. This year we fed, now get this, 55,000+ people lunch in about 14 minutes. Can you believe it? What an awesome team effort it was. We also worked on the Registration Team which checked in thousands of attendees for the conference. It was a wonderful and blessed time. It was great to see old friends as well as make some new.

LOVE was in the Dome and we all felt it, and we all drank it in.

I don’t go with the thought of taking photographs… but every where I go I take them. Minneapolis Wedding Photography | Mara and Jon | Millennium Garden

I met Mara and Jon back in September of 2011. I knew from their personalities that getting to work with them was going to be fun. Mara and Jon had a story of incredible effort and persistence in getting their venue booked for their wedding. For their Minneapolis wedding they booked the Millennium Garden in Plymouth, MN. I could not believe all they went through to get it, but they did. I had never been there before… it is a beautiful place.

I also remember well Mara contacting me the day they were to have their engagement session to tell me Jon was seriously ill and had gone to the hospital. I remember what I sensed in her voice as she told me and I knew she clearly and dearly loved Jon. Needless to say we postponed their engagement session for a week and it was enough for Jon to be fully recovered and back to his old self. You can see the results of that session here.

I had a wonderful time photographing their wedding. A celebration not only of Mara and Jon coming together but two families as well. Family and friends at the wedding were all a delight to work with. There was no shortage of humor at the wedding and reception either. Mara and Jon’s friends are certainly every bit as funny as they are… good times.

Minneapolis Wedding Photography | Sarah and Krist | Watertown, MN

I was blessed to have met Sarah and Krist through a fellow photographer who received their initial inquiry but was already booked and recommended they contact me.
I first met them at Sarah’s Grandfather’s farm in Watertown. I love farming communities and the small town atmosphere. I was lucky enough to spend quite a bit of time in Montana in my life and I value the closeness and strength of small communities. I sat at a table in an old farm house with Sarah, Krist and Sarah’s mother and talked. I felt right at home… thank you guys! Afterwards we headed outside onto the farm and shot their e-session. I had a great time. I also got to meet the delightful Minty (Australian Shepherd). Who you can see in some of the shots. Sarah and Krist run Meadowlawn Kennels where they raise these beautiful dogs.

This Minneapolis wedding ceremony took place at Trinity Lutheran Church this Fall. Fall weddings are so awesome. The colors, the crispness of the morning error… and lack of humidity. What a wonderful day it was. Sarah and Krist’s friends and family were such a kind group of people, and funny too. I truly enjoyed my time with everyone.

Thank you Sarah and Krist so much for inviting me into your day. I am happy and grateful to have met you and for the time we have spent together. Best of everything to you both.

Verizon Samsung Galaxy Tab 7.7 | Total Lack Of Support

I am taking a moment to make people aware of what it is like being on the receiving end of a Verizon product. The product in this instance is a Verizon branded Samsung Galaxy Tab 7.7.

I bought this believing it would be updated from Honeycomb to Ice Cream Sandwich. Since, at least at the time of purchase, Samsung had released the ICS update. This was months ago. To date none of us owners have received the ICS update even though Verizon has had notices posted since the beginning of October that it was on the way and to look for it.

In the Verizon forums there have been numerous threads about this issue which all, at one point or another, get shut down by the Verizon moderator. Never once in all these posts and threads has a Verizon CS rep commented.

Today (11/30/12) I discover that if you walk into a Verizon store to buy one of these tablets new they will come loaded with ICS. Still nothing for us existing customers. Still no word from Verizon.

I urge anyone considering a tablet purchase via Verizon to look at another provider. Customer support is important and addressing technical issues in a timely manner in this day and age is imperative.

I feel insulted by Verizon.

I’ll update this post should anything change in this regard.
